Use good cutting oil and feed the cutters faster/harder than you would think you should. Once you go annular, you don't want to go back to a twist bit! Edited by jbweston 21:54 ![]() In fact, punched 12 big holes with it today. I just bought the dewalt it was 749 it has 2 speeds I am really impressed with it it has a quick change chuck Should be able to get a new one less than 1k. That style will generally do up to 1.5" hole with annular cutter and as small as you want with the jacobs chuck adapter. Can get something that will work from china much cheaper. If 3/4 weldon shank would work, the Hougens are great and made in usa. CS unitec also makes big drills that are better quality than milwaukee, but cost is out of your range. Can probably get into your price range if you get used off ebay or craigslist. You really only need that if you want to cut holes over 2 inch with annular cutters or big MT twist drills. Milwaukee's biggest has 3MT cost closer to 1600 new. If you want to push a #3 morse taper, you will need a big drill. I also have a 904 hougan, I swear I use it almost everyday, very very handy tool, highly recommended ![]() Have ~ $1,500 in drill, chuck, and cutters Edited by boog 21:05 Milwaukee also offer a 18v mag drill but it's close to $3,000 iirc. I have used a friend's 3/4" Milwaukee mag drill but they run about $700 higher than the Hougen. Amazon & MRM off the 904S as a kit that includes cutters & a chuck adapter but I wanted a more complete set of cutter sizes so bought the tool, chuck, and cutters as individual pieces for not much more and got 2x the cutters BTW the "S" refers to having a swivel base compared to the 904 which doesnt I did buy annular cutters thru Amazon as they were quite a bit cheaper. ![]() I bought a 5/8" Jacob's drill chuck thru the same company, not sure if they offer a 3/4" chuck but all my larger drill bits have 1/2" shanks. Same price but didn't have to pay sales tax thru M R M. I bought it from M R Machine & Tool Co though its available on Amazon. Haven't used it yet but it came with high reviews. Ron, I recently purchased a Hougen 904S mag drill after doing a lot of research here on NAT & other places. It would be for occasional shop use, not daily work. I'm asking about the type that would accept a 3/4" Jacobs chuck if you wanted to use that type. What magnetic drill press would you buy tomorrow? Maybe you already have one you'd buy again? Or, have you used one that you would never buy? Posted 20:10 (#8882683) Subject: Favorite magnetic drill? ( logon | register )įavorite magnetic drill?
